The Town of Stanardsville has received preliminary approval from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) of its request for a Planning Grant, submitted by *STAR* on behalf of the Town, to prepare a comprehensive Community Improvement Grant application.
DHCD’s letter to Mayor Gary Lowe on August 6th said $5,000 has been reserved in Planning Grant funding to reimburse the town provided it completes certain activities by October 2nd. These include a public meeting (scheduled for September 2nd, at 7:00 p.m., in the Greene County Library), appointment of a Management Team , completion of a physical inventory, business surveys, and collection of other data to identify economic and physical improvement needs within the proposed project area in downtown Stanardsville.
The Management Team of key stakeholders and local officials will review this data, determine the areas of greatest community need, and undertake other identified activities to satisfy the requirements for up to an additional $30,000 in Planning Grant funding. The ultimate objective is to submit a Community Improvement Grant application by March 31st, 2016 requesting funding to complete various projects that will foster the economic revival of Stanardsville. *STAR* will continue to be directly involved in this process.
